Formula 1: Ferrari Draw The Curtain Over “Unhappy” 2011 Season
As a proud Ferrari fan, it’s hard to admit your favorite team gave up. It’s not the Ferrari spirit, it’s not what you want to hear, it’s not what you expect from one of the most famous and glorious sport teams in the history of motor racing. What you expect, what you want to hear is a roar of furious rage, a vow of revenge, a red and enormous flood that everything clears and purifies. Meh, maybe too much, but you get the picture.
Fact is that at Ferrari losing is not even an option and thatFernando Alonso’s second place is as worth as a last standing in a provincial sunday tourist trophy. Gilles Villeneuve used to say that arriving second only means you are the first person to lose. So, yes, this is basically how it is for the guys at Maranello these days, after a Monza Gran Prix hugely dominated by Sebastian Vetteland his Red Bull and a 2011 championship clearly finished.
At the end of day, even Stefano Domenicali, Ferrari team boss, let out a sigh and said “Ok, it’s over. We have stopped the development of the car”. Which means -basically- that not only 2011 is over, but also that the devlopment of the 2012 Ferrari is still far from being even sketched.
Last sunday, Luca di Montezemolo, Ferrerai president, looked with disgust inside the Ferrari garage while walking along the pit lane just a few minutes before the green light. “I am not happy -Montezemolo confirmed with remarkable tone. I am not happy and I expect a competitive car for 2012 with a clear interpretation of the rules. I want to win the championship again”.
