Formula 1: Red Bull’s Neel Jani Drives The First F1 Car Around New Indian Circuit

Yesterday surely has been a great day for swiss driver Neel Jani. Not only he had the pleasure and the honour to be the first man in the world to drive a F1 car around a newly – completed circuit, but also he did that behind the wheel of a world-champion Red Bull RB7 on what is a home track for him.

Jani took to the track in front of assembled media in New Delhi, at the Buddh International Circuit which will host the 2011 Formula 1 Airtel Grand Prix of India next weekend.

“For me, India is as good as coming home,” Jani, who boasts an Indian father, told Red Bull. “Getting to open the track with my Indian roots is a big honour for me and to being doing that with the 2011 world champions Red Bull Racing is an added honour. I’m sure, come race weekend, that Seb (Vettel) and Mark (Webber) will push their RB7s on this extremely exciting and fast track.”

It was the second demonstration the 27 year-old has completed for the Milton Keynes-based team in a week, after he recently became the first driver to take on the world’s highest surfaced road, India’s 18,380ft-high Khardung La pass, in an F1 car.

The 2011 Formula 1 Airtel Grand Prix of India will take place on October 28-30.
