MotoGP 2011: Misano Recap, Jorge Lorenzo’s Victory And RTR’s Burning Weekend

For this time, first-person blog. It’s worth. The entire staff of RTR has returned to Bologna after the exciting MotoGP weekend at Misano Adriatico. As always, it was an intensive weekend, fulfilled by competitive meanings…but there is more.

One thing is certain: even if we have followed a lot of races, and we can say that here in RTR we do have followed many and many races in more than ten years of MotoGP sponsorship, it is an indescribable emotion being on the circuit when the engines roar. Misano, just like Mugello, is wonderful because of the inevitable Italian passion, and also because Romagna is almost all our own riders’ home.

Finally, after the experience of paddock crowd of protagonists, after the grueling heat of those days and after the many controversies that continue to rage on the MotoGP championship, Jorge Lorenzo won the race, closing up on Casey Stoner.

Even if Honda Repsol HRC was far from having a disappointing weekend, they however had a difficult one.  Stoner said he has been very tired all weekend long, certainly the heat and humidity played their part. His words have officially re-opened the weekly media event of “Stoner in crisis, Stoner is ok”.  Dani Pedrosatook the second position from him, having a good weekend and being in contention for the team leader’s title of Team Repsol to the detriment of his Australian mate.  The fact that 2012 is coming, with the probability that Repsol Honda will return to have only two riders, is making the fight  between riders more and more struggling. Everything is complicated by the Simoncelli factor, back from a fourth-place that is as worth as a podium.

On the other side, Monday in Misano, Yamaha tested the 1000cc motorbike for 2012 with positive results, even if not exciting. In fact, it was hard to test a new motorbike on a pretty slow and very technical track as the one of the Grand Prix of San Marino. Lorenzo and Spies worked hard on braking and on corner entry – a riding feature that must be significantly modified by the riders- but had few answers for what concerns power and speed.

Only 5 races are missing to end up the 2011 MotoGP World Championship and everything can still happen. Indeed, we are confident that during the following weeks the paddock will become very hot with a no holds barred contest.

We, who belong to RTR, will be there as a leading Italian agency in the MotoGP sponsorship. That’s for sure. See you in Spain, September 18th.
