The\u00a0first-generation Ford Mustang<\/strong>\u00a0was manufactured by the\u00a0Ford Motor Company<\/strong>\u00a0from April 1964 until 1973. The introduction of the Mustang<\/strong> created a new class of automobile known as the\u00a0pony car. The Mustang\u2019s styling, with its long hood and short deck, proved wildly popular and inspired a host of imitators.<\/p>\n It was initially introduced as a hardtop and convertible with the fastback<\/strong> version put on sale the following year. At the time of its introduction, the Mustang, sharing its underpinnings with the\u00a0Falcon,<\/strong> was slotted into a\u00a0compact car\u00a0segment.<\/p>\n Sportsroof<\/strong> models were available in base configurations in addition to the\u00a0Mach 1\u00a0and Boss 351<\/strong> sport\/performance options.<\/p>\n The Mach 1s were available with two-tone paint schemes, optional hockey-stick stripes,\u00a0NACA\u00a0(NASA) hood scoops (functional on examples ordered with Ram Air), color keyed side mirrors, and additional sports\/performance options. All Mach 1 models came stock with urethane front bumpers and an alternate grille equipped with amber sportlights.
