{"id":237175,"date":"2014-10-10T22:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-10-10T20:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rtrsports.com\/motogp-dovizioso-dominates-qualifying-in-motegi\/"},"modified":"2024-08-09T02:12:35","modified_gmt":"2024-08-09T00:12:35","slug":"motogp-dovizioso-dominates-qualifying-in-motegi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rtrsports.com\/en\/blog\/motogp-dovizioso-dominates-qualifying-in-motegi\/","title":{"rendered":"MotoGP: Dovizioso dominates qualifying in Motegi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rtrsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/andrea_dovizioso_fp2_motegi_2014-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-11646\" src=\"https:\/\/rtrsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/andrea_dovizioso_fp2_motegi_2014-3.jpg\" alt=\"andrea_dovizioso_fp2_motegi_2014\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Today&#8217;s <strong>MotoGP<\/strong> qualifying brought a double delight for the <strong>Ducati<\/strong> factory team.\u00a0The reason for the smiling faces was their rider <strong>Andrea Dovizioso<\/strong>.\u00a0After a satisfying FP4, that ended in fifth position, the italian continued his good work in qualifying.<\/p>\n<p>He started the session with the first best time, but was soon beaten by the likes of <strong>Valentino Rossi<\/strong> and <strong>Dani Pedrosa<\/strong>.\u00a0In the second run Dovizioso came back on the scene with the extra-soft tire, giving <strong>Ducati<\/strong> their first Pole Position since <strong>Casey Stoner<\/strong> in <strong>Valencia 2010<\/strong> and breaking the initial Pole record besides.<\/p>\n<p>Another surprise was <strong>Valentino Rossi<\/strong>.\u00a0It&#8217;s no secret that \u201e<strong>the Doctor<\/strong>\u201c has his issues with the new qualifying system, since he usually has a great race speed, but struggles to set a good lap time.\u00a0However, today everything went well for the <strong>Yamaha<\/strong> factory rider.\u00a0After a short while of being first, he fell back, but could make up few position at the end of the session.\u00a0He will start tomorrow&#8217;s race from second position.<\/p>\n<p>Behind him followed <strong>Dani Pedrosa<\/strong> in third place.\u00a0The spaniard made it to the first row, despite his crash in the very last lap of qualifying.\u00a0Pedrosa lost the front wheel and fell, but luckily remained unhurt.\u00a0Starting from third place, he&#8217;s the only <strong>Honda<\/strong> rider who made it to first row.\u00a0An important matter, since another <strong>Yamaha<\/strong> win on a track that belongs to <strong>Honda<\/strong> isn&#8217;t what the proud, japanese factory would like to see.<\/p>\n<p>However, the greatest hope for victory lies on <strong>Marc M\u00e1rquez<\/strong> once again, who will start fourth.\u00a0If he wins the <strong>Japanese Grand Prix<\/strong>, he would not only defend his title as <strong>MotoGP<\/strong> world champion, but would be the first Honda rider to ever achieve a title on their own property.\u00a0Surely this is main target for the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Someone who will try to prevent this aim starts next to M\u00e1rquez in fifth place.\u00a0Last year&#8217;s winner and Yamaha factory rider <strong>Jorge Lorenzo<\/strong> dominated friday&#8217;s and saturday&#8217;s first practise and seemed determined to repeat his previous result.\u00a0Lorenzo started into the session as third, but wasn&#8217;t able to improve his laptimes.\u00a0He lost several places throughout the qualifying, but managed to take fifth place in the end.<\/p>\n<p>The second row is completed by <strong>Pramac Ducati rider Andrea Iannone<\/strong>, who, just as <strong>Dovizioso,<\/strong> had an advantage with the extra-soft rear tire.\u00a0If this will help him on race day, is questionable.<\/p>\n<p>Pol Espargar\u00f3 leads the third row in seventh position.\u00a0With that, he&#8217;s still the best Tech3 rider, but nevertheless this isn&#8217;t a result the rookie is aiming for.\u00a0The youngster is followed by a strong Cal Crutchlow, who seemed to have drawn new power out of his podium in Arag\u00f3n two weeks ago.\u00a0<strong>LCR Honda rider Stefan Bradl<\/strong> ended on a low, ninth place, after some ups and downs throughout all training sessions and a good start into qualifying.<\/p>\n<p>Bradley Smith,<strong> Aleix Espargar\u00f3<\/strong> and \u00c1lvaro Bautista form the third row.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s MotoGP qualifying brought a double delight for the Ducati factory team.\u00a0The reason for the smiling faces was their rider Andrea Dovizioso.\u00a0After a satisfying FP4, that ended in fifth position, the italian continued his good work in qualifying.
