{"id":237443,"date":"2015-10-08T22:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-10-08T20:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rtrsports.com\/motogp-yamaha-tops-first-day-in-motegi\/"},"modified":"2024-08-09T02:35:38","modified_gmt":"2024-08-09T00:35:38","slug":"motogp-yamaha-tops-first-day-in-motegi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rtrsports.com\/en\/blog\/motogp-yamaha-tops-first-day-in-motegi\/","title":{"rendered":"MotoGP: Yamaha tops first day in Motegi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rtrsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/yfr_editorial_use_pictures_15-9.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-13197\" src=\"https:\/\/rtrsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/yfr_editorial_use_pictures_15-9.jpg\" alt=\"valentino-rossi-motegi-2015\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Movistar Yamaha MotoGP<\/strong> riders <strong>Jorge Lorenzo<\/strong> and <strong>Valentino Rossi<\/strong> kicked off the first flyaway race at <strong>Twin Ring Motegi<\/strong>, making the most of the perfect riding conditions in the first practice sessions ahead of this weekend\u2019s <strong>Grand Prix of Japan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lorenzo<\/strong> didn\u2019t let the slight shoulder injury, which he sustained last week whilst training, stop him reminding race fans of his strong form at the Japanese circuit. The <strong>Arag\u00f3n<\/strong> race winner started the morning Free Practice session with a competitive pace and needed little time to position himself ahead of his rivals when he dropped under 1\u201946 mark. He continued to improve his times and led for most of the session to ultimately top the <strong>FP1<\/strong> standings with a 1\u201945.432.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Spaniard<\/strong> duplicated his strong performance in the second 45 minute session. Directly on the pace, he posted multiple 1\u201945 laps and comfortably led the way. His fastest lap of 1\u201945.426 remained unchallenged until the final minutes of the session. Having been pushed back one place by fellow Yamaha-rider <strong>Bradley Smith<\/strong>, <strong>Lorenzo<\/strong> felt encouraged to put his head down once more and quickly set a 1\u201944.731 to reclaim the lead by 0.128s at the end of the session and top the overall times.<\/p>\n<p>Teammate <strong>Rossi<\/strong> also showed his determination to fend off the competition and defend his lead in the world championship in FP1. He slowly brought heat into the bigger carbon brake disks, which are cooled with braking cooling ducts because of the<strong> Twin Ring Motegi<\/strong> circuit\u2019s heavy braking character, and soon topped the rankings with a 1\u201946.265 until he was pushed down a place by his teammate. The <strong>Doctor<\/strong> went on to spend most of the morning practice perfecting his setup and finished third with a lap of 1\u201945.844.<\/p>\n<p>The nine-time World Champion also had a positive session in the afternoon. Once again making most of the perfect weather conditions, he held provisional fifth position with a best time of 1\u201945.785 before the pace picked up at the end of the session. Rossi also gave another push and set a 1\u201945.554 at the very end for eighth place, 0.823s from his teammate. The result also leaves him in eighth place in the combined times ahead of tomorrow\u2019s sessions.<\/p>\n<p>This weekend Yamaha\u2019s usual rider line-up is joined by five-time All Japan Superbike Champion <strong>Katsuyuki Nakasuga<\/strong>, who won this year\u2019s Suzuka 8-Hour race alongside <strong>Bradley Smith<\/strong> and <strong>Pol Espargar\u00f2<\/strong>.
