{"id":237508,"date":"2016-02-02T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-02-02T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rtrsports.com\/motogp-lorenzo-rossi-finish-malaysian-test-on-top\/"},"modified":"2024-08-09T02:41:22","modified_gmt":"2024-08-09T00:41:22","slug":"motogp-lorenzo-rossi-finish-malaysian-test-on-top","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rtrsports.com\/en\/blog\/motogp-lorenzo-rossi-finish-malaysian-test-on-top\/","title":{"rendered":"MotoGP: Lorenzo, Rossi finish Malaysian test on top"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The final day of the first <strong>Official MotoGP<\/strong> test of 2016 started off slowly for the <strong>Movistar Yamaha MotoGP<\/strong> team. <strong>Jorge Lorenzo<\/strong> and <strong>Valentino Rossi<\/strong> arrived at the <strong>Malaysian<\/strong> track this morning ready to pick up the testing schedule where they left off yesterday, but were forced to wait for the dry line to form around the Sepang International Circuit for most of the morning. Once they headed out on track in the afternoon both riders were quick to prove their key protagonist status for 2016, finishing first and second respectively in the overall test standings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rtrsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/lorenzo-malaysian-test-2016-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14237 size-full alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/rtrsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/lorenzo-malaysian-test-2016-3.jpg\" alt=\"lorenzo malaysian test 2016\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When <strong>Lorenzo<\/strong> left his pit box, he immediately made his presence known as he moved to the top of the timesheets with a 2\u201800.882s. After his teammate briefly took over the lead, he returned to the top of the rankings with a 2\u201800.016s lap time just before rain clouds gathered over the <strong>Malaysian<\/strong> circuit again, putting a halt to the track action.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With a little more than an hour left to go, he resumed his testing and headed back out to set the first lap under the 2\u201800 mark of the three-day test, which only the Spaniard himself could improve on when he set a best lap of 1\u201859.580s. He ended the test 0.976s ahead of the rest of the field.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Teammate <strong>Rossi<\/strong> may have been the last of the MotoGP riders to start testing today, but he left no doubt that he was just as keen to prove his speed as his teammate. The nine-time<strong> World Champion<\/strong> started with a time attack and slotted into fourth place at the end of his first run. Around halfway through the final day of testing he went fastest with a time of 2\u201800.556s, before taking a short break as it started to rain. <strong>The Doctor<\/strong> hit the track for a second time with 40 minutes left on the clock and finished the day testing some different parts for his YZR-M1 to end the day in second place.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The final day of the first Official MotoGP test of 2016 started off slowly for the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team.
