{"id":237691,"date":"2017-05-21T22:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-05-21T20:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rtrsports.com\/morbidelli-le-mans-2017\/"},"modified":"2024-08-09T02:58:00","modified_gmt":"2024-08-09T00:58:00","slug":"morbidelli-le-mans-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rtrsports.com\/en\/blog\/morbidelli-le-mans-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Morbidelli wins in Le Mans, makes it 4 in 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Morbidelli Le Mans<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS<\/strong> rider <strong>Franco Morbidelli<\/strong> won his fourth race of the season in <strong>Moto 2<\/strong> with a superb, front-running performance in the French Grand Prixat <strong>Le Mans<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It was a brilliant comeback after the disappointment of scoring zero points with a crash out of the previous race at Jerez and confirms that <strong>Morbidelli<\/strong> is the man to beat in the Moto2 World Championship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Morbidelli<\/strong> held his nerve to hold off a strong late race challenge from fellow Italian <strong>Francesco Bagnaia<\/strong> to claim victory with a margin of 1.7 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Morbidelli set the fastest lap of the race and a new record for the 4.18km Bugatti Circuit of 1\u201938.836 on lap 21 as he held off Bagnaia\u2019s surge.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Morbidelli 2017<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Earlier <strong>Morbidelli<\/strong> had wrestled for the lead in the opening laps with Tom L\u00fcthi but was in control of the lead from half distance of the 26-lap race run in sunny and warm conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The French GP was a tribute to the tenacity of <strong>\u00c1lex M\u00e1rquez<\/strong> who ignored the pain and discomfort of fracture in his left foot to finish a brave fourth.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e1rquez only conceded the final podium position with five laps reaming after a long and tense battle with L\u00fcthi.<\/p>\n<p>Morbidelli leads the championship on 100 points after five rounds ahead of <strong>Tom L\u00fcthi<\/strong> on 80 with M\u00e1rquez moving into third place with 62 points.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16432 size-large\" title=\"morbidelli le mans\" src=\"http:\/\/s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/static.rtrsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/morbidelli-le-mans-2017-3.jpg\" alt=\"morbidelli-le-mans-2017\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Franco Morbidelli: 1st<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>\u201cI am really happy because it was important to make a good race here after my bad Sunday in Jerez at the previous race. I wasn\u2019t planning to win; I just wanted to stay with L\u00fcthi, Bagnaia and \u00c1lex because they had a strong pace in practice. But from the start I had confidence and trust in my bike and decided to push and go for the win so thanks to my team for all the work to allow me to do this.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c1lex M\u00e1rquez: 4th<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>\u201cIt has been a difficult weekend with the changeable weather and two crashes in practice and then with the pain in my foot for the race. But I think I did a good job and the podium was close but I just couldn\u2019t make it today over the final laps. The main thing is I scored important points for the championship at a circuit where I normally struggle a little.
