In 2026 that is no longer enough: Lewis Hamilton races for Ferrari, Lando Norris is the reigning world champion, Andrea Kimi Antonelli leads the championship at twenty and Daniel Ricciardo has retired. Above all, the way brands choose drivers has changed. Here are the seven Formula 1 drivers who are most interesting today for an endorsement deal, with the personal contracts they actually have, and what it means for a company that wants to partner with one of them.

Updated September 2026.

In short: off the track, the driver who earns the most is by far Lewis Hamilton, with around 30 million dollars from personal sponsors in 2025 according to Sportico, compared with 8 million for Max Verstappen and 5 million for Lando Norris. Winning is not enough: Verstappen, a four-time world champion, has a personal commercial portfolio far smaller than his fame. The seven most interesting profiles for brands in 2026 are Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, Verstappen, Norris, Antonelli, Oscar Piastri and George Russell, each with a different audience and positioning.

Why a driver is now worth something off the track too

In the days of Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost or Michael Schumacher, a driver became an icon mainly by winning and appearing on television. Performance still matters today, but a driver is also expected to be a communicator: social media, content produced by the team and by their management, campaigns with sponsors. Netflix’s Drive to Survive turned the protagonists of the paddock into characters in a story and brought Formula 1 a new, younger and more international audience, starting with the United States.

For a brand, this means a driver is a media channel in their own right, with an audience that does not fully overlap with the team’s. But it also means a driver’s commercial value does not depend on results alone: it depends on who they are, what story they tell and which markets they reach.

How much drivers earn off the track

Sportico’s ranking of the highest-paid athletes of 2025 separates on-track earnings, meaning salary and team bonuses, from off-track earnings, meaning personal sponsors and commercial activities. The numbers are very clear:

Lewis Hamilton: 100 million dollars in total, of which around 30 million off the track. He is the first Formula 1 driver to reach 100 million in a year;

Max Verstappen: 83 million, of which around 8 million off the track;

Lando Norris: 59 million, of which around 5 million off the track;

Oscar Piastri: 38 million, of which around 3 million off the track.

In other words, the seven drivers on this list are not worth the same to a brand, nor in the same way. We also cover this in our article on how much Formula 1 drivers earn.

The 7 drivers for endorsement deals in 2026

1. Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari)

Seven-time world champion, with Ferrari since 2025. In SportsPro’s 2025 ranking of the world’s 50 most marketable athletes he is first overall, ahead of champions from every sport. His personal portfolio is the broadest on the grid: Perplexity, the AI-powered search engine, chose him rather than a team and has carried its logo on his helmet since the 2025 Imola Grand Prix; since 2025 he has been a global ambassador for Lululemon, the brand’s first Formula 1 driver; he works with Dior, EA and Rimowa. He is also an entrepreneur: in 2023 he launched Almave, a non-alcoholic agave spirit, with Casa Lumbre, and Pernod Ricard joined the business in 2024.

Best suited to: high-end global brands, fashion, technology and lifestyle. Hamilton is the most-followed driver on social media and a reference point on issues such as diversity and sustainability, which the brand needs to share. He is also the most expensive driver.

2. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari)

The Monegasque has been the face of Ferrari for years and has a personal portfolio built with consistency, almost entirely in luxury and Mediterranean lifestyle. Richard Mille has backed him since 2014, from his karting days, and in 2025 dedicated a second signature watch to him. His personal partners include VistaJet, Riva, APM Monaco, Puma, Peroni 0.0 and Eight Sleep. In 2024 he launched an ice cream brand, LEC, with the founders of Grom, which later arrived in France and the United Kingdom.

Best suited to: luxury, yachting, fashion, premium food and brands that want to speak to Italian and European audiences through Ferrari.

3. Max Verstappen (Red Bull)

Four world titles, from 2021 to 2024, and the 2025 championship lost by two points. Yet off the track Verstappen is a special case: in 2025 he even dropped out of SportsPro’s list of the 50 most marketable athletes. His best-known personal deal is with Heineken 0.0, whose ambassador he has been since 2023, in a contract signed together with Heineken’s deal with Red Bull. Since 2026 his team, Verstappen Racing, has competed in the GT World Challenge with Mercedes-AMG.

Best suited to: brands that want to be associated with pure performance and with the Dutch fan base, one of the most passionate in the paddock. Verstappen chooses few partners, with a direct profile far from polished communication.

4. Lando Norris (McLaren)

2025 world champion, and for years one of the drivers most loved by young fans. His personal partners include Monster Energy, which launched a signature can for him in the United States in 2025, Ralph Lauren with the Polo Red fragrance, Tumi and, since August 2026, Starburst, the data and artificial intelligence platform, in its first ever sports deal. Norris is also the co-founder of Quadrant, his content and esports business: in 2025 the majority stake passed to Veloce Media Group, and in 2026 his grandstand at Silverstone passed 16,000 seats.

Best suited to: brands targeting Gen Z, gaming, technology, drinks and casual fashion.

5. Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes)

The most interesting case of 2026: at twenty, in his second season, Antonelli leads the championship and became the first Italian to win at Monza since 1966. He still has few personal deals, often linked to Mercedes partners such as IWC and Police, which created a signature edition of sunglasses for him. That is exactly what makes him an opportunity: his commercial value is growing much faster than the contracts already signed. We wrote about it in our article on Kimi Antonelli’s Italian window.

Best suited to: Italian and international brands that want to get in early with a driver destined to grow, at costs still far from those of established champions.

6. Oscar Piastri (McLaren)

The Australian was the most popular driver among The Race’s readers in its 2025 survey, a sign of his appeal among enthusiasts. In 2026 he signed a personal deal with Google for Pixel phones, even though Google is already a McLaren partner, and in February 2026 he renewed with the Australian chain Grill’d.

Best suited to: brands that want to cover Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, and technology brands looking for a sober, credible profile.

7. George Russell (Mercedes)

Second in the 2026 championship behind his teammate, Russell has an elegant, measured image and is one of the most listened-to voices in the paddock. Since April 2026 he has been a global ambassador for AMAFFI Perfume House, and he works with Police.

Best suited to: premium brands, perfume, watchmaking and companies looking for a reliable British ambassador without excesses.

Who has dropped off the 2022 list

In 2022 this list also included Daniel Ricciardo and Pierre Gasly. Ricciardo’s last Formula 1 race was Singapore 2024, and he announced his retirement from racing in September 2025, becoming a Ford Racing ambassador: he remains a much-loved personality, but he is no longer on the grid. Gasly races for Alpine on a contract to 2028 and is still an interesting profile for French and technology brands, but today he has less visibility than the seven drivers above.

How a deal with a driver works

A personal deal with a driver is not a contract with the team. The driver has a contract with the team that reserves certain spaces and product categories for team sponsors, and every personal deal must be compatible with those constraints: a brand that competes with a team sponsor is unlikely to be approved. This is why deals are increasingly hybrid. Heineken works with both Verstappen and Red Bull, Google with both Piastri and McLaren, IWC and Police with both Antonelli and Mercedes. Carlos Sainz is the opposite example: Estrella Galicia has sponsored him personally since 2013 and in 2026 became a sponsor of Williams, his team.

Before choosing a driver it is therefore worth checking three things: conflicts with team sponsors, the image rights actually available and the length of the driver’s contract with the team.
