In 2026 the riders living there include Fabio Quartararo, Jorge Mart\u00edn, Jack Miller, \u00c1lex Rins and Joan Mir.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Updated October 2026.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In July 2026, interviewed by Ana Pastor on La Sexta, Marc M\u00e1rquez said he had bought a house in Andorra as a second residence, when many riders were already moving there and taxes were much lower, and that he lasted two months in a row. According to Crash.net the attempt dates back to 2015, when he was 22. Today M\u00e1rquez lives in Madrid, where he moved in 2022 together with his brother \u00c1lex, pays his taxes in Spain and keeps the house in the Pyrenees as a second residence, for the skiing.<\/p>\n<p>That nearly empty house says something about a place the grid has chosen en masse: in May 2020 Motorsport.com counted more than a third of MotoGP riders as living in Andorra. This guide explains why, with verified figures, and who really lives there in 2026.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/rtrsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/andorra_la_vella_-_footpath.jpg\" alt=\"View of Andorra la Vella from above, with a footpath and the Pyrenees mountains in the background\" width=\"621\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Why MotoGP riders live in Andorra: the short answer<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Taxes: income tax up to 10%, IGI (the local VAT) at 4.5%, no inheritance or wealth tax.<\/li>\n<li>Training: the Pyrenees mountains allow altitude training.<\/li>\n<li>Privacy: a small country, far from the spotlight.<\/li>\n<li>A comparison: for MotoGP, Andorra is what Monaco is for Formula 1 (Crash.net).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Taxes: the main reason<\/h2>\n<p>In Andorra the IRPF, the personal income tax, is progressive: 0% up to \u20ac24,000, 5% from \u20ac24,000 to \u20ac40,000, 10% above \u20ac40,000. The IGI, which corresponds to VAT, is 4.5%, and there is no inheritance or wealth tax. In Spain the top IRPF rate reaches 47%, VAT is 21%, and inheritance and wealth taxes exist.<\/p>\n<p>For a rider earning millions the difference is huge. For Marc M\u00e1rquez, who remains a tax resident of Spain, Spanish press estimates put the gap between the IRPF he pays and what he would pay in Andorra at several million euros a year.<\/p>\n<p>But tax is paid where you really live, and living in Andorra is another matter. M\u00e1rquez tried for two months and went back; today he says he wants to live where he feels he can give his maximum on track, near a good team and a good medical centre, and that taxes matter less to him because even after paying them he is left with a lot.<\/p>\n<h2>Which MotoGP riders live in Andorra<\/h2>\n<p>According to OKDiario (February 2026), those living in Andorra are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fabio Quartararo<\/strong>, born in Nice and resident in Andorra<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jorge Mart\u00edn<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Joan Mir<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00c1lex Rins<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Jack Miller<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Motosan (January 2026) adds the Espargar\u00f3 brothers, Aleix and Pol, who pay their taxes in Andorra. On Maverick Vi\u00f1ales the sources do not agree: OKDiario places him in Andorra, while Motosan writes that he lived there but moved to Catalonia after becoming a father in 2021. For that reason we do not count him in the list.<\/p>\n<p>Marc and \u00c1lex M\u00e1rquez (Madrid), Pedro Acosta (Murcia), Johann Zarco (France), Franco Morbidelli (Italy) and Miguel Oliveira (Portugal) do not live there. The Andorra-Pas de la Casa circuit sits at 2,400 metres above sea level and is an asphalt track of under a kilometre (845 metres according to Motorsport.com), used for karts and motorcycle training.<\/p>\n<p>On 13 May 2020, with the reopening after lockdown, nine resident riders resumed training there: among them Vi\u00f1ales, Quartararo, Mir, Rins, Miller, both Espargar\u00f3s, Lecuona and Rabat, according to Diario Libre.<\/p>\n<h2>Quality of life and privacy<\/h2>\n<p>Andorra is a small landlocked country between France and Spain, with 89,058 inhabitants on 31 December 2025 according to the Department of Statistics (+2.3% in a year). The official language is Catalan, but Spanish and French are spoken too. For those who spend most of the year between airports and paddocks, a place where nobody asks for an autograph at every corner has a value that tax tables do not measure.<\/p>\n<h2>What a rider&#8217;s residence tells a sponsor<\/h2>\n<p>For a brand, a rider&#8217;s tax residence matters little: Quartararo is French, Mart\u00edn and Rins are Spanish, Miller is Australian, and each is marketed in his own market.
