That holds for a brand that wants the hood of a front-running Cup Series car for the whole season. For everyone else the ways in start at far lower figures, and the real question is not what it costs but what the investment has to deliver.

In short, NASCAR sponsorship costs from around $15,000 per race for an associate placement to more than $35 million per season for the primary sponsor of a championship-contending team. Everything else sits in between: programmes covering a handful of races, the two lower national series, deals with the sanctioning body itself.

This guide, updated to 5 November 2026, sets out costs, packages, this season’s sponsors, audience figures and ways to measure return. Contract figures are industry estimates: teams and brands do not publish their deals, and I say so every time a number cannot be verified.

In short

In the Cup Series a primary sponsor pays roughly $75,000-$120,000 per race with a smaller team and more than $500,000 with a top team; a full season at the front exceeds $35 million.

According to industry estimates, an associate placement costs between $15,000 and $40,000 per race, or between $200,000 and $1.5 million per season.

The O’Reilly Auto Parts Series (formerly Xfinity) and the Craftsman Truck Series are the most affordable national series, with national TV coverage.

TV audiences are falling: 2.48 million average viewers in 2025, 14% fewer than in 2024. NASCAR nonetheless remains an arena for B2B relationships, with a fan base historically loyal to sponsors’ brands.

How much does NASCAR sponsorship cost in 2026

The price depends on four variables: the series, the team’s competitiveness, where the brand sits on the car and the number of races covered. A brand coming in as an associate with a midfield team and one taking the hood of a title contender are not buying the same thing, and they are not chasing the same objective either.

The estimates circulating in the industry are very wide and often contradict each other, because contracts stay private. Two of the few public prices come from Texas A&M University, whose contracts surfaced through records obtained by Sportico: in 2024, $160,000 for two races as primary sponsor with Stewart-Haas Racing; in 2025, $275,000 to be primary sponsor of the No. 41 Ford of Cole Custer, Haas Factory Team, at the Coca-Cola 600 and associate sponsor for the rest of the season.

The table summarises the ranges I use as a starting point in a first conversation with a client. The per-race and per-season estimates come from different sources: I have aligned them so they can be compared.

Series

Placement

Per race (estimate)

Per season (estimate)

Cup Series

Primary sponsor, top team

over $500,000, up to around $900,000

up to more than $35 million

Cup Series

Primary sponsor, midfield team

$350,000-$500,000

$13-$19 million

Cup Series

Primary sponsor, smaller team

$75,000-$120,000

partial programmes from around $1.5 million

Cup Series

Associate sponsor

$15,000-$40,000

$200,000-$1.5 million

O’Reilly Auto Parts Series

Primary sponsor

varies

from a few hundred thousand to a few million dollars

Craftsman Truck Series

Primary sponsor

varies

from under $100,000 to a few million dollars

Activation comes on top of the rights fee: hospitality, content, promotions, driver appearances. In our experience a working benchmark is roughly $2 of activation for every $1 of rights. A sponsorship that skips this part delivers less, whatever the series.

Primary sponsorship: what you are buying

The primary sponsor controls the look of the car in the races it has bought. Its brand takes the hood, the TV panel, the rear quarter panels and the deck lid; it appears on the driver’s fire suit, on the pit crew uniforms, on the team hauler and on the pit stall.

The package usually includes garage passes for the race weekend, driver likeness rights for commercial use, dedicated content on the team’s social channels and, above all, control of the livery colours. That last element is worth the most: for those races the car adapts to the brand’s identity, not the other way round.

The clauses behind these rights, such as category exclusivity, make-goods if the car does not race and guaranteed hospitality allocations, decide whether the package delivers what was promised. We analyse them in our guide to the NASCAR sponsorship contract.

Associate sponsorship: the most accessible way into the Cup

The associate sponsor gets smaller spaces on the car, such as the C-post or the lower quarter panels, plus visibility on team materials and digital channels. It does not get the hood, the driver’s suit or a say on the colours: those belong to the primary sponsor.

In my experience it is also the most misunderstood placement. It does not give control of the image, but it gives access to the team, its audience and its hospitality, and it lets a brand test the platform before committing to bigger numbers.

O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and Craftsman Truck Series

From 2026 the second national series is called the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series: O’Reilly Auto Parts replaced Xfinity as title sponsor under a multi-year deal, as we covered in our article on the series’ title sponsor change. Xfinity has not left NASCAR: it remains a Cup Series Premier Partner. The series runs 33 races, almost all on Cup weekends, and is broadcast exclusively on The CW.

The Craftsman Truck Series runs 25 races in 2026 and is the most affordable national platform, with coverage on Fox and FS1. It will change name from 2027: in September 2026 NASCAR announced FedEx Freight as the new title sponsor, replacing Craftsman under a long-term deal. For a brand with a budget below a few tens of thousands of dollars per race it is often the most sensible starting point. Choosing the series comes before choosing the team and the budget: we tackle it in our comparison of Cup, O’Reilly Auto Parts and Truck.

What a NASCAR sponsorship includes

A logo on the car is the starting point, not the sum total of the investment. The rights in a NASCAR sponsorship fall into four areas, and each one produces a different return.

Car and team visibility: hood, quarter panels, fire suit, uniforms, hauler and pit stall for the primary sponsor; secondary spaces for the associate. Every placement can appear on national television in all the races covered.

Media rights: the use of team images and content in the brand’s own communication, which extends visibility well beyond the race weekend.

Hospitality and B2B relationships: garage passes, pit access, driver meetings. A NASCAR weekend, including the support series, usually spans two or three days and offers far more time to host clients than a game lasting a few hours.

Commercial rights: the driver’s image for advertising and in-store promotions, and the official partner designation of the team or driver.

For a company that sells to other businesses, the third area often weighs more than the first. In my experience that is where a NASCAR sponsorship pays for itself, when someone in the company is tasked with turning those days into meetings and deals.

Why NASCAR is different from other American sports

There are three differences, and all of them have a direct effect on what a sponsor buys.

The first is the asset. In stadium sports the brand sits on a board, in one city. In NASCAR it sits on a car that travels the United States: in 2026 the 36 championship races are held at more than twenty different venues, from Florida to California, and the car is on camera constantly, from in-car shots to pit road.

The second is the format. A race weekend, including the support series, usually spans two or three days, against the few hours of an NFL or NBA game, and leaves far more time to host clients, arrange meetings and run fan zones.

The third is the length. The NFL regular season lasts 18 weeks; NASCAR’s runs from February to November. A primary sponsor with a full programme stays on television for most of the year, race after race, market after market.

Who sponsors NASCAR in 2026

The 2026 season’s sponsors range from insurance to finance, from defence technology to streaming, alongside the traditional categories such as beer and soft drinks. They operate on two levels: deals with the series and deals with individual teams. The full list, team by team, is in our NASCAR sponsors list for 2026.

The Cup Series Premier Partners

The 2026 Premier Partners are four: Busch Light, Coca-Cola, Xfinity and Freeway Insurance. Freeway Insurance is the only new name: it fills the slot left by GEICO after the 2024 season, became the Official Insurance Partner and gives its name to the autumn race at Phoenix, the Freeway Insurance 500 on 18 October 2026. NASCAR’s official partners also include Anduril, a defence technology company, Official Defense Partner since August 2025.

The most significant team deals

Prime Video is primary sponsor of Chase Elliott’s No. 9 Chevrolet at Hendrick Motorsports for three races a year from 2025 to 2027 and an associate for the rest of the season. In 2026 the races were Talladega, Texas and the All-Star Race. Amazon is also one of the Cup’s four broadcasters: on the track and on screen, in the same championship.

Progressive is in its second season with Denny Hamlin and Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 11 Toyota: 11 races as primary sponsor in 2026, down from 18 in 2025, including the finale at Homestead.

Robinhood renewed with 23XI Racing for 2026: six races as primary sponsor with Bubba Wallace and Corey Heim, including Heim’s Daytona 500.

Xfinity, beyond its Premier Partner role, has been primary sponsor of most of Bubba Wallace’s races since 2026 and runs selected races with Tyler Reddick.

Anduril signed a multi-year deal with Hendrick Motorsports: two races a year on William Byron’s No. 24 through 2028. In 2026 they were San Diego and Chicagoland.

An insurer, a streaming platform, a finance app and a defence company in the same championship say something precise: NASCAR is no longer a platform for a handful of product categories.

The end of the charter lawsuit

Then there is a structural fact. On 11 December 2025, mid-trial, NASCAR settled the antitrust lawsuit brought by 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports. Every Cup team received permanent, so-called evergreen charters: grid places without a fixed expiry date, but tied to minimum performance requirements. The financial terms remained confidential. For a sponsor signing a multi-season deal, teams with a secure place on the grid are one less risk.

The Freeway Insurance case: from team sponsor to Premier Partner

The most interesting commercial journey of recent years is Freeway Insurance’s. In 2021 it was primary sponsor of Daniel Suárez’s No. 99 Chevrolet in Trackhouse Racing’s first season, a brand-new team. It increased its commitment year after year, reaching 12 races as primary sponsor in 2024, and in 2026 it followed Suárez to Spire Motorsports.

In October 2025 NASCAR announced it as the fourth Premier Partner of the Cup Series, with its name on the autumn race at Phoenix. Five seasons to go from a single car to the championship level. In October 2026 Freeway also confirmed its deal with Suárez for 2027.

This is how I read it: NASCAR rewards brands that come in with a clear objective and measure the return at every step. The journey was not accidental, and not everyone can replicate it. But it shows that the platform lets a brand grow in stages.

The audience: the numbers, read without filters

NASCAR’s TV audience is large but shrinking, and it is worth knowing that before signing. The 2025 Cup Series season averaged 2.476 million viewers per race in the United States, 14% down on 2024, when the average was close to 2.9 million.

2026 started well: the Daytona 500 on 15 February, won by Tyler Reddick for 23XI Racing, averaged 7.49 million viewers on Fox, 11% more than in 2025. Fox’s races, however, closed with a 3.11 million average, the Cup’s lowest on Fox and the fourth decline in a row, and in the second half of the season many races fell below 2 million. The change of method also matters: since May NASCAR has reported Nielsen panel-only figures, without the streaming component.

Daytona and Talladega have grandstands holding tens of thousands, but NASCAR does not publish official attendance figures. The season runs from February to November, with 36 championship races.

The most quoted figure on fan loyalty comes from Performance Research: around seven NASCAR fans in ten say they almost always or frequently choose sponsors’ products over competitors’. It is a historical finding, repeated from the 1990s to the early 2000s, and should be read as an indication of a trend, not as a forecast for your own brand.

TV rights through 2031

NASCAR signed a seven-year deal, from 2025 to 2031, with Fox, NBC, Amazon Prime Video and TNT Sports, plus The CW for the second series: $7.7 billion in total, about $1.1 billion a year, 40% more than the previous contract. Fox carries 14 Cup races, including the Clash and the All-Star Race, NBC the last 14, Prime Video and TNT five each in the middle of the season.

For a sponsor this means two things: coverage that spans free-to-air television and streaming, and broadcast windows known through 2031, on which to build multi-year plans.

The races that matter for a sponsor in 2026

Not all 36 races on the 2026 Cup Series schedule carry the same commercial weight. Some bring more viewers, others a different audience, others are already an example of how a race title works.

Race

Date

TV

Why it matters for a sponsor

Daytona 500

15 February

Fox

The most-watched race: 7.49 million viewers in 2026

Circuit of the Americas

1 March

Fox

Road course in Austin, home of the F1 United States Grand Prix

Talladega

26 April

Fox

Superspeedway: cars in packs, a lot of time on camera

Coca-Cola 600

24 May

Prime Video

The longest race of the year, on Memorial Day weekend

San Diego

21 June

Prime Video

New street circuit at Naval Base Coronado

Chicagoland

5 July

TNT

First Cup race there since 2019, on Independence Day weekend

Freeway Insurance 500

18 October

USA Network

A live example of a race title sponsor, in the Chase

Homestead-Miami finale

8 November

NBC

The race that decides the title

In 2026 the Chase format returned: after 26 races, the top 16 drivers fight for the title over ten races, with no eliminations, from Darlington to Homestead. The finale is on 8 November, at Homestead-Miami and no longer at Phoenix. The calendar’s biggest races are also covered in our article on NASCAR’s Crown Jewel races.

For anyone planning an entry, the calendar is an activation map: each race has a different audience, market and broadcast context. Choosing races according to objectives delivers far more than treating them all the same.

NASCAR, Formula 1 or IndyCar

The right platform depends on three things: the audience to reach, the markets the company sells in and the budget. NASCAR, Formula 1 and IndyCar are not interchangeable alternatives.

Metric

NASCAR Cup

Formula 1

IndyCar

Market

United States

Global

United States

Average US viewers, 2025

2.48 million

1.3 million

1.36 million

Races in 2025

36

24

17

Entry point

From $15,000 per race as an associate

Presence with meaningful rights from around $2 million a year

No public rate card; known case: $60,000 in 2025 for a driver’s helmet and suit

Best suited to

Brands with a national US market

Global and premium brands

Brands with US objectives and smaller budgets

The Formula 1 figure comes from ESPN’s last season, before the switch to Apple TV in 2026. The IndyCar figure is the weighted average of the first season on Fox: without the Indianapolis 500, which drew 7.09 million viewers, the average for the other races drops to around 832,000. The IndyCar case cited is Texas A&M’s, which in 2025 paid $60,000 for its brand on Felix Rosenqvist’s helmet and fire suit at Meyer Shank Racing, under a contract separate from the NASCAR one.

Formula 1 speaks to the world; in our September 2026 survey a presence with meaningful rights starts at around $2 million a year, almost always over two seasons. The details are in our guide to the cost of Formula 1 sponsorship. NASCAR and IndyCar speak mainly to the United States, and the comparison between the two is closer: we made it in our article on NASCAR and IndyCar. For a brand that wants a national American presence for most of the year, NASCAR offers more events at a lower entry cost.

How to measure the return on NASCAR sponsorship

Return is measured on four fronts. In my experience many brands look at one or two.

Media value: specialist firms such as Joyce Julius and Nielsen count every appearance of the brand in broadcasts and estimate its equivalent advertising cost. It is the most immediate figure, but on its own it says nothing about sales.

B2B relationships: meetings, negotiations and contracts that started at race weekends. They need tracking from day one, otherwise NASCAR’s biggest value stays invisible in the accounts.

Consumer metrics: pre- and post-season research on awareness, consideration and purchase intent among fans.

Digital: traffic, engagement and conversions generated by team content and dedicated campaigns.

Those who measure all four fronts have a complete picture and can decide whether to grow, stay or leave. Those who look only at media value almost always decide on the basis of a number that says nothing about business.

Where to start

The first step is choosing the series, then the team, then the number of races. Before all that, though, comes the objective: awareness in a new market, relationships with American clients, a product launch. The six decisions every brand faces, from series to signature, are in our guide on how to sponsor a NASCAR team.

RTR Sports has worked in motorsport sponsorship since 1995, across NASCAR, Formula 1, MotoGP and IndyCar. Precisely because we cover several championships we can tell a company when NASCAR is the right choice and when it is not. For a brand that sells in the United States it is often the most efficient platform. For one that sells mainly elsewhere, more often than not it is not.

Put your brand on the grid
Let’s talk about a series, team or race programme built around your objectives.

NASCAR sponsorship with RTR Sports

NASCAR is not expensive or cheap in absolute terms.
