Circuit Description
In July 2012, Kazakh businessman Alijan Ibragimov announced plans to build a $40 million motor plant on the outskirts of Almaty, Kazakhstan’s largest city, with construction scheduled to begin in September. RacingLoop was chosen as a consultant and Hermann Tilke was commissioned to design a circuit intended to attract MotoGP and the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, but work did not begin until 2014. In 2016, a go-kart track and a drag strip were inaugurated with the presence of Jorge Lorenzo, while the construction of the circuit was well underway. In early 2019, construction work had gone as far as installing electronics and timing, before coming to a halt due to political problems.On September 27, 2022, it was announced that the circuit would host the Kazakhstan Motorcycle Grand Prix until at least 2028, starting in 2023.
