Circuit Description
Built in 1965 around the existing 24-hour track, the Le Mans Bugatti Grand Prix circuit is located 5 km south of the city of Le Mans and 200 km southwest of Paris. The facility has hosted Grand Prix races since the late 1960s, but a serious accident involving Spanish driver Alberto Puig in 1995 decreed its exclusion from the calendar until 2000, while rigorous safety improvements were made. Le Mans is a tight track, dominated by first gear corners that put the emphasis on late braking and hard acceleration, while rear-wheel drive is another key aspect. With the capacity to comfortably accommodate up to 100,000 spectators, the Bugatti circuit also hosts the 24-hour truck race, the FIA GP2 Championship, French touring car races and GT races.
