Circuit Description
Car and motorcycle races have been held on closed public roads in the area around the city of Chemnitz, Germany, since the 1920s and were held until 1990. However, it was decided that the five-mile route through such a densely populated area was no longer suitable, and in 1996 a new circuit was built five miles west of Chemnitz. Although primarily used as a driver training center and road safety station, Sachsenring first hosted MotoGP in 1998, and many improvements have been made since then, including a drastic track improvement in 2001. The many tight turns make it one of the slowest circuits on the calendar, but there is never a shortage of close racing.
