Circuit Description
Nestled in the beautiful setting of Portugal’s Algarve, the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve-known more colloquially as Portimao, named after the port city from which it is half an hour away-was inaugurated on November 2, 2008. The circuit was inaugurated by WorldSBK when it traveled to Portugal for the last race of that season, but it is not just a track. The Algarve Motorsports Park is a state-of-the-art complex that boasts the beautiful circuit, a go-kart track, an off-road park, a hotel, an apartment complex, a technology park, and a sports complex-it really is the ultimate. As for the actual track, the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve features 15 turns, nine right and six left. Portimao’s undulation is incredible, and the front straight will allow MotoGP™ riders to stretch their bikes’ legs before a unique descent into Turn 1.
