Michael Schumacher, 7 time Formula One world champion, remains in a stable but critical condition in hospital today following his skiing accident on Sunday.
Sabine Kehm, Michael’s manager, said he was being carefully looked after, and that she would not comment on rumors about his condition.
“The good news for today is… there’s no significant changes,” said Ms Khem this morning,
Schumacher is in a medically induced coma in hospital in Grenoble, after he suffered head injuries in a skiing accident in the French Alps on Sunday. Doctors said on Tuesday that he had shown signs of improvement, but they added that he was still “not out of danger”.
He had been skiing off-piste when he fell and hit his head. His helmet cracked on impact after hitting a rock.
“That does not mean that Michael was travelling at high speed. He was not too fast,” Ms Kehm told reporters on Tuesday.
She said that the former champion was not skiing with just his teenage son, as had been reported, but also with a group of friends. It has become clear that Michael was on his way to aid one of his companions who had fallen over when the incident occurred.
Doctor’s have said that they cannot give a prognosis on his condition in the coming days and maybe months. It is important to remember that it is medically possible for someone to spend several weeks in an induced coma and fully recover from it.
Messages of support have come from across the world, including members of the F1 fraternity who have raced or worked with Michael in the past.
David Coulthard, former rival of Schumacher, said: “I know Michael from the race track, and there’s no question in my mind that he has the physical ability to take on this challenge, which is the greatest one of his life.”
Michael’s former team Ferrari, with whom he secured 5 of his 7 championships, also responded to the accident by releasing this statement earlier this week:
“Everyone at Ferrari has been in a state of anxiety since hearing about Michael Schumacher’s accident.
“President Luca Di Montezemolo, through team principal Stefano Domenicali, is in constant contact with the family and those close to the German champion.
“Montezemolo has offered his encouragement and support at this very difficult time, with the hope that better news will come soon.”
